How to be comfortable when traveling

If you travel often, you do know how uncomfortable it is to travel. You have to deal with check-ins, checkpoints, boarding, flying, landing, and baggage claim and then wait for someone to pick you up. If you are like me, I love to travel, but hate the hassle. The part that I don’t like most is waiting for that dreaded landing. You also have to contend with the person who is sitting beside you if you are traveling alone.

Some air planes don’t have enough leg room, no complimentary food and so many annoying things too many to mention here. I have children, but the worst thing for me is when I am tired and traveling to hear a baby screaming for the entire flight.

If you sit in the exit row, you have to be a specific age and be able to assist during an evacuation procedure. Don’t sit in the exit row if you can avoid it. I usually pick the window seat. At least I can look outside if I don’t want to talk to anyone.

I just learned that Southwest Airlines does not give you the option of seat assignments. If you want to sit somewhere comfortable, you better check in early. For most airlines, you do want to check in early to avoid expense the energy it takes to get all the requirements out of the way.

If you choose a window seat, make sure you go to the bathroom before boarding the plane. You don’t want to disturb other passengers. If you have to go to the bathroom, they will understand, but the less you can, the better it is.

Try not to fly on a Sunday or Monday. This is the day when most people are flying back from weekend trips. Wednesdays and Thursdays are better days to travel. Avoid flying on major holiday or when there is a major event going on.

You do want to wear clothes that are comfortable such as loose clothing. Forget about looking cute in tight jeans. Wear comfortable shoes as well. Remember, you have to sit down for long hours in those tight jeans.

Travel with a pillow and/or blanket. This allows you to take a nap during the flight. Bring your own food on the plane. Fix a sandwich from home. The food at the airport is expensive and you also have to now purchase food on the plane.

Buy chewing gum to help with the air pressure. Take aspirin with you just in case it is needed. Get some ear plugs and put it in your purse or pocket. You won’t be able to take water or drink with you due to the TSA checkpoint rules. However, you can purchase it at the airport for $2 or get it on the plane.

Place any medication or liquid in a zip lock bag. If you don’t, you will lose it. I would suggest putting those in your checked bag unless you will need to take the medication during travel. Enjoy your flight and take the first step in striking up a conversation with the person sitting next to you. Your flight might seem faster if you do.

Your advice is spot on. You mention being irritated by a baby screaming the entire flight. No one enjoys that, especially the poor mom trying to console the child. Traveling with infants and little ones is very trying if they are not used to traveling.
