If you are a woman traveling alone
If you are a woman traveling alone, there is more care that you have to take. Women are often taken advantage of when they travel. There are men out there that prey on innocent women on vacation so taking the right precaution is the key to staying safe.
Hotels offer additional information on how women can keep safe. Ask questions when you check in to a hotel. If you feel vulnerable when traveling, then it may be good for you to arrange your travel with someone else.
While you are checking in be sure to ask for a room that is located near a well lit area. This will help you to feel safer when entering the room at night. You can order room service if you don’t feel comfortable eating at restaurants alone. Some hotels even provide a kitchen and microwave where you can warm up TV dinners that you purchase locally. This will also help you to save some money on your trip.
Here are some tips to keep in mind if you are a woman who is traveling alone:
· Never accept drinks from any strangers. Men in night clubs will take advantage of lonely women and spike their drinks.
· Never wear your expensive jewelry locally.
· You might want to wear a ring on your finger to presume that you are married to keep some men off.
· Be always calm and confident
· Have your cell phone handy
· Never travel at night. Sometimes you may not be able to avoid it, though, but try your best to travel during the day.
· When you get to the airport, hire a taxi cab company that is well known.
· Carry you cash and credit cards safely on your person when you are going out. Wear slacks with pockets. Your purse or handbag is an obvious target for thieves.
· Be sure to have your passport information copied. Keep this information by itself in a different location than your passport.
· Make sure you have all the emergency numbers for the embassy and for the bank that you are associated with in case your valuables are stolen including your credit card and cash.
· Put a sign on your hotel door that you don’t want to be disturbed as soon as you retire for the night.
· Be sure that your family and friends know where you are. Give them your hotel location, hotel phone number and your cell phone number.
· Never leave the badge with your name on it after you have attended a business meeting.
· Have the names of all of your prescriptions handy so that if you have to purchase any, you will know exactly what to order. You don’t want to get the wrong prescription drugs.
· Before you book your flight, do some research about the hotel you want to stay
· Make sure you have travel insurance in case something goes wrong.
There is no doubt that women are targets to travel fraud, robbery, rape and other incidents, so women should be particularly careful to take the proper precautions.
