Overseas travel and what you should know

These aren’t the days when you can hop on a plane at random. You have to put a lot of planning in your trip and much more so if you are traveling overseas. The latest security measures and have triggered a host of commands, regulations and strict rules. Here are some ideas to make your trip more relaxing and less stressful.

If you do have problems sleeping on the airplane and are nervous about traveling, drink a glass of wine or take a couple of chamomile tea bags with you and get some hot water on the plane to make your tea. This will help you to relax or sleep.

When you are writing up your luggage tags, make sure it has the correct destination especially for a connecting flight.

Bring your headphones along with you. It will help to keep out the noise and give you something to do while you are flying. If you are running late for your connecting flight and are not familiar with the airport, ask someone that works in the airport to save yourself time.

Pack a sandwich and take with you. The food at the airport is expensive and you no longer are fed on the air planes except for long flights.

Take note of all emergency exits on the plane. Pay attention to the flight attendants demonstration of their safety measures in the event of an emergency. Be conscious of where the emergency doors are located.

Before the date of your flight, log into the online portal and assign seats for your flight on arrival and departure from your destination. This will make it easier for you when you get to the airport and you get to choose the seat you want and not have the flight service personnel select just any seat for you.

Carry a small blanket with you and one of those head rest. It will provide added comfort for you. If you take medication, make sure you have those in a zip lock plastic bag and put inside of your carry-on luggage.

If you are terrified of flying, you might want to sit by someone who seems confident, even if you have to switch seats. You should try to sleep on the plane. However, choose flights that are non-stop and not connecting flights.

Replace your contact lens with regular glasses. The air in the cabin will irritate your eyes if you have sensitive eyes. If you choose to keep in your contacts, make sure that they are properly lubricated.

If you are traveling overseas, secure your passport and your returning plane ticket in your luggage. Do not carry it around with you in case it gets lost. Plan how much clothes you will take with you according to the number of days of your stay.

Read as much as you can about the country you are flying to or even the city, if it is a domestic flight.
